LOG BOOK (in general)
LOG BOOK
(2019-)
I started the LOG BOOK in 2019, and initially it was a purely private project, with no prospect of a concert or realisation.
The idea was to create a musical diary that could incorporate as many heterogeneous elements as possible: my children singing or playing, people screaming in the subway, advertisements, etc. In 2021, after I had already spent almost two years composing, editing and mixing this material, the Black Page Ensemble and I (I am always on stage in my productions and especially in LOG BOOK) played 40 minutes of it in Graz. The PHACE ensemble and I played another hour of it in Donaueschingen in October 2021.
Zafraan then had the idea of presenting stages of it every month between 2022 and 2023 at ACUD in Berlin.
CONTENT
The moments of Log Book can be grouped in various themes, and forms:
- shipping forecast. A series of weather reports of the sea around England from 2019 till now.
- life in Berlin: anecdotes, stories, interviews, prerecorded voices.
- children: voices, songs, stories of small children.
- instrumental/electronic music (no text)
- Trips (to Prague, to Linz, in train, bus, car)
- appliances (washing machine, coffee machine, oven).
- Radio, electronic devices and interferences
- animals (insects, dogs, fishes, foxes)
Zafraan Ensemble and I recorded over three hours of this music in 2023, which I premixed, edited and recomposed at home. The final sound was done by Johannes Malfatti.
VISUALS
In 2022 i started to draw and paint in connection to the moments of LOG BOOK.
These pictures are now part of the Log Book performances, each of the painting accompanies each moment.
The first idea was to make graphic scores, and charts, maps, plans for the organisation of the whole project.
I didn't find it good enough, so i enhanced, smoothed and refined them with Mid Journey.
CARD GAME
In 2024 Clemens Hund-Göschel from Zafraan Ensemble created a game based on some moments of the Log Book. 80 cards reproduce the pictures of 80 moments, and thanks to a QR code the players have access to the corresponding sounds. The game is performable by 2 persons up to 10.
